Insurance Excellence Scholarship The National Alliance CISR and CIC designations are world renown for their high caliber of insurance industry education and
have long been the foundation of our association’s professional education and development department. Scholarships for both programs have been designed to encourage either the beginning or continuation of a current course of study in the pursuit of these time-honored professional designations.
Criteria for Consideration and Eligibility:
- First time participant in the indicated designation program
- Employed full-time in the insurance or risk management industry
- For CIC, it is recommended the individual has a minimum of two years industry experience and may not already be a CIC designee
- For CISR, may not already be a CISR designee
- Must take any applicable examination - a passing grade is not required
- Demonstrates a commitment to professional continuing education
Awards are given for one course per program and must be used within 12 months of award or the benefit is forfeited.

| Marie Welch ScholarshipThis scholarship is provided by the Oklahoma City Community Foundation in honor of Marie Welch, an entrepreneur who began Oklahoma General Agency literally in her kitchen. Marie was the first female president of the American Association of Managing General Agents and supported scholarships for students who have chosen a career in insurance and/or are pursuing it as a major degree in college or a post-secondary education equivalent. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage the beginning or continuation of a current course of
higher educational study. The funds are to be used for degree or certification studies only at an academically accredited institution in the United States. Scholarships will be awarded based on merit as demonstrated by grades, school and community service. Selection will be made by a committee made up of insurance industry professionals based on the application information provided, applicant’s essay and a letter of recommendation from a non-family member. “Financial need” is not a criterion.
Criteria for Consideration and Eligibility:
Candidate must be a child of an active BIGiOK member, or a full or part-time employee of an active BIGiOK member organization.
Candidate must be a resident of Oklahoma pursuing a bachelor’s degree at a community
college, college or university.
Candidate must be sponsored by an active BIGiOK member in good standing with a letter of sponsorship sent to education@bigiok.com on or before the application deadline.
An official transcript for the most recently completed semester will be required to be sent to support the online application by or before the application deadline. Send by email to
education@bigiok.com with the candidates name and purpose the letter referenced in the
subject line.
A letter of recommendation from a non-family member must also be sent as support for the application submitted online, by or before the application deadline. Send by email to education@bigiok.com with the candidates name and purpose the letter referenced in the subject line.
Candidate must submit (by email) a one-page, typed (double-spaced) essay on the following topic:What impact does the emergence of insurers doing more direct-to-consumer insurance sales via online platform technology and innovative customer engagement technology have on your decision to join the insurance industry?
