OkPac
is BIGiOK's state political action committee that provides financial support
for state elected officials who will provide or have shown support of
issues affecting the insurance industry and share our business
philosophies.
"Why OKPac you may ask."
Examples of successes in the past few years.
- On a state level, we saw the passage of SB1249
– the Affidavit of Exempt Status form. The was inadvertently left out
of the 2014 workers compensation statute and we've been able to
introduce and implement a new and improved version.
- On
a federal level, IIABA worked with the IRS for issued regulations of
the tax code (Section 199A) for the 20% tax deduction for 'pass through
entities' . The issue was that there was a question as to the definition
of insurance agents and brokers as to whether they were “specified
service trade or business" which would not be eligible for the
deduction. Happily, the draft regulations indicates that the IRS DOES
NOT consider insurance agents or brokers to be in this category.
